Acupuncture (Facial Rejuvenation)

Are you looking for an alternative to cosmetic surgery? Do you want to minimize the appearance of wrinkles? But don't want botox or acid peels? Maybe acupuncture can help.

Turning back time with Cosmetic Acupuncture/Facial Rejuvenation

Cosmetic Acupuncture (Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture) may be the answer you're looking for. It can turn back time and take years off your appearance; not only is it safe, but your constitution is also re-established, which benefits overall heath and vitality, and of course, yields that healthy glow we all want.

My unique approach to Cosmetic acupuncture is to combine it with the classical acupuncture style to re-establish your natural homeostasis, two benefits in one.

The benefits of Cosmetic Acupuncture "facelifts" include:

  • Natural alternative to surgery, botox, acid peels, and dermabrasion,
  • Cost effective,
  • Core constitutional re-balancing means beauty from within,
  • Overall health benefits,
  • Non-invasive,
  • No recovery time,
  • No risk of infections, swelling, or scarring.

Acupuncture works by addressing the whole body and your individual reasons for showing the signs of aging, and in the process, Cosmetic acupuncture reinvigorates your circulation giving you that natural glow, evens out skin tone and discolorations, diminishes fine lines, balances out oily vs dry areas, tightens puffy skin to yield a supple natural look, and most importantly treats you as a whole. Thus, you are treated for your core constitution (internally), which supports your overall health and beauty, and provides an natural anti-aging solution.

What is Facial Acupuncture?

With so many surgical and non-surgical options available to further one's quest to look and feel youthful, it can certainly be confusing to know which method is right for you!

To many people's surprise, Chinese Medicine can provide a safe, effective, natural and relatively painless solution to reducing the signs of aging. Cosmetic Acupuncture, also known as Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture, or Acupuncture Facelift*, is a non-surgical method for those who not only want to maintain beauty, radiance, and vitality in the face, but also improve their overall health and well being.

[*The term "facelift" is, in fact, inaccurate, for these types of facial acupuncture treatments do not utilize incisions, sutures, acid peels or high powered lasers and will not produce sudden, drastic changes in underlying structures. The mechanism by which acupuncture works is entirely different than a facelift.]

The secrets of rejuvenation, longevity and beauty were highly sought after by members of the imperial royal court and the wealthy elite of ancient China. Cosmetic Acupuncture is currently gaining more attention in the West as a complementary facial treatment, one that holistically addresses the causes of aging skin, unlike methods such as plastic surgery or Botox injections that only change the appearance without correcting the underlying imbalances.

Cosmetic Acupuncture's growing popularity has garnered media attention with features on ABC Television's "Good Morning America" and Public Broadcasting System's "Health week," and has created a buzz among celebrities who use it to maintain their glowing and fresh appearances. Furthermore, a study in the 1996 International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture reported that 90% of the 300 cases treated with facial acupuncture had marked beneficial results with only one course (typically 12 sessions) of treatment. These effects included the diminishing of wrinkles, improved facial muscle elasticity and overall rejuvenation.

Certainly, this method is not a replacement for surgery, as acupuncture cannot reshape a nose or chin, yet it can take five to ten years off your face through a safe and less costly alternative without the risks and side-effects that are involved with more invasive treatments.

Beauty from within

It is said in Chinese Medicine that "anything in the interior will be reflected on the exterior" and, indeed, the skin reflects and reacts to your entire being—physical, emotional and spiritual. Furthermore, as we mature and experience the stresses of our daily lives, the blood, qi, and fluid circulation of the skin and underlying facial muscles slowly begins to decrease, resulting in a loss of support, elasticity, nourishment and moisture. Thus, Cosmetic Acupuncture is performed by precisely inserting hair-fine, sterile, disposable acupuncture needles into areas of the face and body to stimulate blood flow and collagen production to the face, while balancing the whole body. The overall result transforms your skin, yielding a smoother, more radiant appearance, while gently revealing its natural beauty.

Benefits of Cosmetic Acupuncture include:

  • Erasing of fine lines with reduction of larger wrinkles on the face;
  • Reduction and elimination of puffiness and bags beneath the eyes and around the face;
  • Lifting of drooping eyelids, and reduction of sagging jowls or double chin;
  • Improved facial muscle tone, elasticity, and dermal contraction;
  • Increased circulation to the face resulting in improved facial color and radiance, while reducing the appearance of discolorations (age spots, acne, rosacea, chloasma, etc.) and dryness;
  • Increased collagen production and dispersal throughout the face, and tightening of pores;
  • Reduction of stress and aging that is evident in the face;
  • Whole body revitalization.

How do I choose a Cosmetic Acupuncturist?

As you may have read about this classical style and philosophy of True Acupuncture, it is quite different from other Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practices. When giving a Cosmetic acupuncture session, I honor the same philosophy of choosing acupuncture points as I would in a regular (non-facial acupuncture) treatment—the points of the body used during the Cosmetic acupuncture treatment will be customized to your body's system. In almost all other types of facial acupuncture sessions with TCM practitioners, the entirety of the session's protocols are adhered to with strict rigidity; the same points are inserted in the body, ears, and face of every individual at every session. Certainly, experience has dictated what works and what does not, yet, inserting needles into the same twenty body and ear points on every individual detracts from the idea of harmonizing one's unique system.

I will customize the body points to your systems demands (with only a minimal number of needles) and then proceed with the facial points. This ensures a balanced treatment for beauty and constitution.

How long does it take?

A typical course of treatment consists of twelve (12) consecutive sessions. Each session is two hours in length and administered weekly. Following this course of treatment, monthly or seasonal sessions are recommended for maintenance. As always, each individual responds uniquely and the number of sessions and results may vary, but many individuals report noticeable improvements after only a few sessions.

Owing to each person's uniqueness, a package/series of treatments is the most beneficial in making sure that results are achieved. While some people may notice positive changes in 1-2 treatments, some may not until the 4th or 5th treatment. [Please note: the effects of smoking and sun damage may be difficult to reverse.] Only getting 1-2 treatments may not be enough to begin the natural reversal of the signs of aging from the myriad of stresses we throw at our face day in and day out.
